Five things from the Dana Open, where a club pro and a Solheim Cup captain contend ahead of Lexi Thompson Day

Xiyu “Janet” Lin is the only top-20 player in the world in Sylvania, Ohio, for the 40th anniversary of the Dana Open. It’s no surprise then that she held a share of the first-round lead with Aditi Ashok at 6 under until late in the day when Hye-Jin Choi posted a 7-under 64 to take the solo lead into Friday.

A host of players sit in a share of third at 5 under, with defending champion Linn Grant three shots back.

With so many top players absent, it’s a prime opportunity for many in the field to secure much-needed CME points or even a victory. For some, it’s a chance to qualify for the final major of the season at St. Andrews.
