Watch: After two tee shots OB, Peter Malnati holes out for double bogey, jokes ‘golf sucks so bad’

By

We’ve seen a few amazing shots already in the first few hours of the 2024 Black Desert Championship.

Ben Kohles aced the par-3 17th on Thursday. Later in the day, J.J. Spaun almost made an ace, his ball burning the edge and lipping out on 17. Then it was Justin Suh, also on 17, with a near ace, his ball tracking towards the cup but stopping just short. Camilo Villegas later in the day joined the fun, as he snuck a tee shot on 17 snug up against the cup.

Then there’s the curious case of Peter Malnati.

After opening with a pair of pars and then a birdie, Malnati sent two tee shots OB – the first one wide right, the next wide left – on the par-4 sixth hole. After the two penalty strokes, his fifth was finally in play and then from 177 yards out, Malnati bounced his ball short but then watched as it trundled up on the green and went into the hole.

An all-world double bogey, one that elicited a funny reaction from Malnati.

“Golf sucks so bad,” he could be heard on the on-course microphone. “That’s the stupidest.”

And then: “Nice double.”

Sometimes, you just gotta laugh.
