Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda by the numbers during their five-event hot streaks

13views

We’ve seen this before.

We’ve seen Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam both won five consecutive LPGA events. We’ve seen Tiger Woods win four times in five starts in consecutive (2007, 2008) years on the PGA Tour. Tiger and Ben Hogan have also won events six in a row.

But never have we witnessed the type of mastery and dominance and perfection being displayed by Nelly Korda and Scottie Scheffler simultaneously.

In their last 10 starts combined, the two world No. 1s have won nine times, with a misread by Scheffler on a five-foot putt on the 72nd hole of the Houston Open standing in the way of the pair posting a perfect 10.

Korda’s five straight wins was capped this week with her second career major, the Chevron Championship. Scheffler has sandwiched a pair of wins around that runner-up in Houston. All four wins were signature events: Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players, Masters and then at the RBC Heritage. The win at Augusta was Scheffler’s second major.

And the two are well aware they have company when it comes to their historic feats.

Korda admires Scheffler for the way he lives his life on and off the course.

“I just love the way he goes about his business,” she said. “He inspires so many around him, including myself. As he even said, he wants to win every tournament he tees it up in. That’s every girl competing out here, too.

“You just have to go about your business. You can get lost in the articles. You can get lost in the expectations. But I think if you just stick to your true self, I feel like you can live in your own little bubble and enjoy it a lot more.”

After his victory at Hilton Head, Scheffler said he was asked if he and Korda are now in an arms race.

“One of the people here asked me … ‘Is this turning into a competition between you and Nelly?’” the Dallas resident said. “And I was like, ‘I don’t know, man.’

“I think if it’s a competition she’s got me pretty beat right now. Five wins in a row. She had that T-16 at the beginning of the year, which was just terrible; I can’t believe she did that,” Scheffler added with a smile. “But yeah, it’s pretty special stuff. To win four times in a row and then show up at a major championship and win is extremely impressive. So I’m extremely happy for her.”

Both golfers are taking a well-deserved break this week. This gives us a chance to look at the numbers inside their five-event streaks.
